Best Fly Fishing of the Year on the Poudre
Today was the best fishing of the year on the Poudre. Plenty of midges hatching all day. Surface activity was inconsistent but with the low flows, dries were the best option. Using a 9ft 5x leader tapered with 6x tippet was a must. Fly-Fishing with a dry dropper was the ticket. I was personally using a #18 Old Town Midge with a #20 All American as my dropper. The brown trout we hooked into weren’t monsters, biggest being 10 inches. The action was consistent. We were on the water from 10:30-3:00.
Guide Recommended Flies: #18 Old Town Midge, #20 All American, #20 Mavis Midge, #20 Glass-O-Wine and #20 Ouzel Midge.
